2017 BHAC Poetry Festival

Brighton & Hove Arts Council (24th October 2017)

Now that the BHAC Poetry Competition has closed with a record six hundred entries all eyes and efforts turn to the Poetry Festival itself which takes place at The Old Market, Upper Market Street, Hove on Saturday November 18th.  We have been extraordinarily lucky and honoured to attract the poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy, who will perform a number of her well known poems together with her musical companion John Sampson.
.
The Festival itself kicks off with the well known poetry slam specialists  Hammer and Tongue, who will not only run a competition but will bring along a number of their star performers.  The Brighton & Hove Arts Council 2017 Poetry Competition winners will be announced and the prizes will be given out by Carol Ann Duffy.  The programme also includes Attila the Stockbroker, who will no doubt stir things up in his own anarchic way with his special brand of poetry vitriol.
.
Throughout the performances and prize giving there will be opportunities to listen to music in Old Tom’s Bar, sample Brighton Gin, and enjoy pies and quiches from one of our sponsors, Higgidy.
.
BHAC has worked hard to promote the event including the distribution of 10,000 leaflets, posters, radio programmes, editorial in the local press and even the renting of a poster site on one of the busiest locations in Brighton.  We are looking forward to a packed house.
.
Tickets are available from the Old Market Box Office website or phone them on 01273 201801.
