The 2023 Art Show has now closed and was very successful. We had 144 entries of paintings, carvings, embroidery, mixed media and stained glass (compared to 115 last year). In addition, 62 unframed pictures were available for purchase from browsers.
The weather was kind to us and we had over 800 visitors over the 4 days (compared to 600 last year) – it seemed that half of Brighton was there during the last hour!
Patricia Harper, of Dupont Art Club, was presented with a bottle of wine for her painting ‘Twilight Encounter’, which was used on the main flyer and the Arts Diary to promote the show.
Lucy Parker, of the Society of Sussex Painters, was also presented with a bottle of wine for her painting ‘Spring Colour’, used on the private view invitation.
Caroline Marsland, of Dupont Art Club, was the runner-up in the People’s Choice competition with her painting ‘Ashdown forest at dusk’. She was also presented with a bottle of wine.
The overall winner of the People’s Choice competition was David King of Adur Art Collective for his painting “M.K.W.”
David, who was runner-up in last year’s competition, was presented with a bottle of champagne, and the new trophy, which he can hold for the next year.
Huge thanks to all the BHAC committee and helpers who helped to make the show such a resounding success, especially Jane Osler, Kevin Rance, Caroline Earle, Abi Rose, David Sears, John Hird, and Vivienne McKay – who organised the event!
