2021 BHAC POETRY COMPETITION AND FESTIVAL

The Poetry Competition received over 600 poems for the judge, Dr. Jess Moriarty, Head of Creative Writing at University of Brighton, to consider. The winner of the £1000 top prize was Kathy Brown, and the winner of the Student Competition was Florence Unwin.

The Festival was a huge success with headline poet Jackie Kay handing out the prizes and readings from her, John Agard and Grace Nichols, plus a poetry slam featuring Hammer and Tongue.

2021 BHAC SUMMER ART SHOW

The first live event after lockdown, our Art Show in July was a great success. With over 135 artworks and over 500 visitors, despite a one way system and  masks everyone enjoyed seeing the art in person.  Our usual private view, with nibbles and a visit from the mayor, was held in the front garden.

The winner of the People Choice cup was Jacob Taghioff of Adure Art Collective, with his oil painting “Koi Carp.

2020 BHAC WINTER ART SHOW

Our popular annual Art Show, due in April this year, was another casualty of the pandemic.  However, we are delighted to be running an online show from 16th November until 13th December.  Artists from eight of our art group members are exhibiting their work.

A panel of judges, who all have a strong connection to Arts and Culture in our city, will select the BHAC ‘Artist of the Year’ from the exhibits.  (See here for the winner)

2019 BHAC DRAMA AWARDS

Five theatre groups entered this year, and our Adjudicator, Kate Dyson, presented the awards to the winners at the awards event in Bhasvic’s Main Hall on Tuesday 3^rd December.

2019 BHAC POETRY COMPETITION & FESTIVAL

Our biennial Poetry Competition closed for entries on 20^th October 2019.  Winners were announced, and winning poems read, at the BHAC Poetry Festival on 24^th November 2019.  You can read about the Festival, see some photos, and learn who won – and read the winning entries – here>>
