From the Earth
‘From the Earth’ brings together the work of three distinctive Sussex artists, each with a unique take on their chosen discipline.
Drawing from 28 years in landscape design, Alan translates architectural precision into ceramic art. Inspired by Japanese aesthetics and Antoni Gaudí, his work now centres on experimental Raku firing. Through complex, detailed forms, he bridges the gap between organic design and refined artistry, continually evolving his creative practice.
Inspired by the ever-changing Sussex countryside, Gareth creates atmospheric landscapes in both acrylic and oil. His paintings are not literal depictions of a place, but imagined environments that capture the feeling and essence of a landscape. Gareth hints at familiar scenes rather than defining them. This intentional ambiguity invites the viewer to bring their own memories and emotions to the work.
Mark blends photography, painting and collage to transform landscape images into atmospheric, painterly abstractions. Printed on brushed aluminium, his work gains unique depth and contemporary feel. By focusing on the monumental presence of trees and tagging each piece with GPS coordinates, he invites viewers to rediscover the natural world.
