A Gentleman Botanist Afoot in Sussex: A Walk on the Wild Side

Sat 3rd October @ 3:00 pm

;A Gentleman Botanist Afoot in Sussex: A Walk on the Wild Side'. An illustrated talk in the church by Nick Sturt, Chair of the Sussex Botanical Recording Society on Sussex plants.
Nick will celebrate the richness and variety of the county;s flora through a wander around some of the habitats. Sussex is home to a truly exceptional collection of wildflowers, grasses, sedges, rushes and ferns. Something like 2,750 species have been observed in the county since records began and all have entries in the Flora of Sussex published in 2018.
Rest assured that Nick Sturt, Chair of the Sussex Botanical Recording Society which produced this work, is not intending to mention all these plants in his talk. His aim is to introduce this wonderful array of wildflowers along with some of the field botanists who have found or studied them, by way of encouraging an appreciation of the botanical riches around us – whether it be the gems of our chalk downland, the tough inhabitants of our long coastline or the ‘weeds’ in our urban streets and gutters. Expect 45 minutes of full-on plant portraits and habitat photographs with random digressions.
Cost: £12 to include tea and cake.
