Cello & Piano Sonatas

Wed 19th May @ 1:00 pm

BRIGHTON DOME

Adrian Brendel - cello
Joanna MacGregor – piano

.

Two exceptional soloists perform sonatas by Britten, Bridge and Franck in this re-scheduled recital (originally a February Coffee Concert from Strings Attached, now part of Brighton Festival 2021).

Britten: Cello Sonata in C Major Op.65
Bridge: Cello Sonata in D Minor H.125
Franck: Cello Sonata in A Major FWV8

Adrian Brendel, one of the most versatile cellists of his generation, performs with the acclaimed pianist Joanna MacGregor, who is also Music Director of the Brighton Philharmonic Orchestra.

In this epic programme, Britten’s brilliantly conceived and darkly witty sonata is partnered by a hauntingly beautiful work by Frank Bridge, composed in memory of the Great War, and one of Franck’s most deeply romantic works, which has been described as “a voyage of the soul”.

Brighton Dome & Festival Members priority booking available now, with general booking from 10am, Wed 7 April 2021.
