“Close to Nature”

In a change to our original programme we present a group of Schubert’s Lieder which follow the changing cycle of the seasons through the year.
The early twentieth-century composer Rebecca Clarke was a superb word-setter: we have chosen three of her highly atmospheric songs which touch on the supernatural and the mythic.
Britten’s song-cycle Winter Words sets poems by Thomas Hardy that observe and reflect deeply on our place in the natural world
