Monthly illustrated lecture: ‘The Art of the Space Race’ presented by Steve Carroll
Most revolutions in science or technology like the Renaissance and Enlightenment, have an impact upon art. So why has the Space Race and the resultant moon landings – among the greatest achievements of humanity – had so little influence on the Arts? Steve suggests why discoveries in the Cosmos had so little effect on 20th-century art and discovers some hidden gems, especially from Russia. The lecture considers painting, poetry, literature and cinema concluding with the work of contemporary female artists exploring this theme today.
