‘The Country Wife’ or ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’
Written by William Wycherley, adapted and directed by Steve Titchmarsh.
Sex, lies and scandal rule the town. Enter Harry Horner: a charismatic playboy who spreads a daring rumour that he’s impotent, granting him unprecedented access to society’s most ‘respectable’ wives. While husbands drop their guard, Horner drops his… reputation, and chaos follows. Among those caught up in the intrigue is Margery Pinchwife, a wide-eyed country girl newly arrived in the city, whose curiosity and awakening independence threaten to expose everyone’s secrets. ‘The Country Wife’ receives a bold 1980s makeover, complete with big hair, shoulder pads, and a pumping pop soundtrack. With Bananarama, Duran Duran and Madonna driving this fast-paced, irreverent comedy, Wycherley’s razor-sharp satire proves that hypocrisy, desire, and bad behaviour never go out of fashion.
Please note: due to adult themes and innuendo, this production is recommended for ages 14+.
