Jazz at St Andrews
Tony Kofi, ‘Miles and Bird’
Celebrating Miles Davis’ Centenary at St Andrew’s Church as part of the Brighton Fringe Festival. Tony Kofi has long been at the forefront of the British jazz scene, with a tone and improvisational style that emulates the great Charlie ‘Bird’ Parker, the godfather of post-war bebop. Parker’s legendary partnership with an 18-year-old Miles Davis produced some of the most ground-breaking tunes that set the foundations for the great lineage of modern jazz musicians to follow. In this concert, Tony and trumpeter Chris Coull revisit a selection of those great recordings, with Tim Wells – piano, Paul Whitten – double bass, Angus Bishop – drums.
