Obituary
Joan Griffiths (1940 – 2021)
Last year we very sadly advised members and supporters that, on October 19th, our long serving, much-loved and well-respected Membership Secretary and Treasurer, Joan Griffiths, had passed away peacefully, at Martlet’s Hospice, after a hard-fought battle with inoperable lung cancer.
Joan played a vital role in BHAC, generous with her friendship, local knowledge, time and money, in support of all our activities. She worked tirelessly and cheerfully throughout her illness and the messages of condolence received from supporters and member groups showed the high regard and fondness they had for Joan.
Just a few weeks before her death she became our first ever Patron – a new level of support that she had helped create and through which she will always be remembered.
The Trustees and Executive Committee are grateful for her huge contribution, her energy, commitment, and sense of fun. She will be greatly missed.
Our thoughts and condolences are now with Griff and all her family.
Joan had, of course, several other lives, including serving in every possible role in the Kemp Town Society. Their obituary and appreciation of her as ‘a force of nature and a fount of energy’ is on their website https://www.kemptown-society.org.uk/latest-news/joan-griffiths-1940-2021/ and is well worth reading.
