This Community Interest Company was set up by Brighton & Hove Council, Brighton & Hove Older People’s Council, Brighton & Hove Pensioners’ Forum and the local branch of Age Concern (now Age UK). It makes fortnightly hour-long programmes of interest to older people in the community which are broadcast on Brighton’s Community Radio Station, “RadioReverb”, and on Brighton’s Hospital Radio Station, “Coastway Radio”.
Each edition contains interviews, features, music and memories. In the last twelve months we’ve covered topics such as neighbourhood care, older drivers, and lunch clubs, and highlighted other facilities and sources of support available to older people. We’ve looked at a newly-formed amateur dance company whose members are all over the age of sixty, and examined the suitability of sports such as tennis and bowls for older people. We’ve also heard reminiscences of life in Brighton and Hove in the earlier parts of the twentieth century. In addition to the benefit we provide to our listeners, our team members, most of whom have no previous experience in broadcasting, are learning new skills such as interviewing for radio.
