Outstanding Contribution to the Arts Award 2024: Call for Nominations

Brighton & Hove Arts Council (BHAC) is delighted to invite its members once again to nominate an individual for its annual Outstanding Contribution to the Arts Award.

Each year BHAC selects an individual who we believe has made a difference to the not-for-profit arts scene in the area and presented them with the Outstanding Contribution to the Arts Award.

Last year’s winner was Ron Common, Southwick Players (pictured).

Past winners include Paul Gregory, Artistic Director, Lunchtime Concerts at the Chapel Royal, Deborah Roberts, Artistic Director, Brighton Early Music Festival; Mary McKean, Chair of the Regency Society and Strings Attached; Andy Sherwood, teacher and conductor of Brighton Youth Orchestra and Director of Music for Orchestra at Brighton & Hove Music & Arts; Muriel Hart, who ran Brighton Orpheus Choir; and Pat Shrimpton of Lewes Little Theatre.

  • The nominee can be anyone in the not-for-profits arts sector in the Sussex area who has made a significant contribution to the arts – from the central performers to the unsung heroes who work behind the scenes.
  • The nominations will be judged by the BHAC Executive Committee and the winner will be announced at an award ceremony at the beginning of November (details to be confirmed).
  • The winner will receive a certificate, and a trophy which they keep for a year.

Please email BHAC Secretary Caroline Earle at: earleybird67@yahoo.co.uk stating clearly why you think your nominee deserves to win (300 words max).

CLOSING DATE FOR NOMINATIONS: Monday 30 September.
