Reputed to be the biggest children’s parade in Europe – but certainly the best – the annual Children’s Parade through the streets of Brighton will start off the 2017 Brighton Festival this coming Saturday, 6th May 2017.
Starting off at 10.30am in Kensington Street in the North Laine, it will move on through Jubilee Street, past the Theatre Royal in New Road, down North Street, south along East Street and across Grand Junction Road, finishing on the sea front on Marine Parade at around 1pm.
It’s expected that around 5,000 children (and a few helpers) from 80 schools will take part this year and the parade will be led by the Hot 8 Brass Band, giving the parade a touch of New Orleans.
The parade’s theme this year is “Poetry in Motion”, in keeping with its Guest Director, poet Kate Tempest.
The weather forecast is dry, so let’s cheer them on. In the meantime, we at BHAC wish all our members, both groups and individuals, a great Festival and Fringe 2017; as well as in various events, many will be participating as hosts (or visitors) in the Artists Open House Weekends of Brighton Festival which also start this weekend:
May 6&7, 13&14, 20&21, 27&28
