The Turn of the Screw

Southwick Players – 2nd March 2019

Around a year ago I directed “The Turn of the Screw” (an adaptation of the Henry James ghost story) for the Southwick Players.  Working with a dream cast and crew, this dark, ambiguous story came together wonderfully and played to great houses for its 4 night run at the Barn Theatre Southwick.  It was always my intention to highlight the delicious candlelit Victorian gothic of the story, and really play with the multiple layers of the text.

Imagine my surprise when I recently learned that the production has been shortlisted under the “Best Drama” category for the forthcoming NODA (National Operatic and Drama Association) South East awards, being held on Sunday 24th March at the Electric Theatre, Guildford.

As the shortlist is only 3 shows, I am incredibly proud to have this show nominated – it’s a testament to the hard work and vision of all the actors involved, as well as the crew and technical team who put the piece together – it was a dream come true job to direct.
