South East Dance – 31 March 2021
Update on The Dance Space
We are thrilled to announce that construction for The Dance Space, a brand-new home for dance located in the Tarner area of Brighton & Hove, is currently on track, and we are hoping to receive the building from the developers by the end of June 2021. We will then commence our fit out in the Autumn, and will be inviting various artists and community groups to test the building from early 2022 before we open fully to the public, hopefully in time for next Easter.
It has been one long but incredible journey, and one which would not have been possible without the support and encouragement of the many individuals who shared our dream of a new home for dance in the South East. This is an exciting new chapter for South East Dance as we forge ahead with our vision of a world where every body can create, take part in and enjoy dance in all its forms.
Sadly, we will have to say goodbye to our current ‘home’ on Kensington Street next month, and indeed the South East Dance team will continue to work remotely until we can move into The Dance Space later this year. On that subject, if anyone knows of spare office spaces or meeting rooms where members of our team could occasionally get together in person, do please get in touch.
In other news, we have been blown away by the popularity of two of our current online programmes. Our Boy’s Movement Classes for 7-11 year olds have proven so successful that we will be including these in our regular programme from this autumn (subject to funding). Similarly, our online Mind The Gap sessions for dance artists at the beginning of their careers has so far welcomed more than 200 attendees.
And, possibly saving the best until last, Our City Dances is back! It will have a somewhat different feel, being both digital and live format, but will run for a whole week from Monday 19th July. We’re still in the process of commissioning artists and planning activities, so do sign up to our e-newsletter or keep an eye on our website for further updates – www.southeastdance.org.uk
